The Christmas Videos…and a happy new year!

It was a truly wonderful Christmas here this year – very relaxed, simple and calm – full of laughter and quietly precious family moments…. and an awful lot of (though I say it myself) fabulous food!  As is now an annual tradition,  Beth made a family video as our Christmas card, and  I just wanted…

Christmas is a-coming

Thought I’d just have a little catch up on the year – as much for me to reflect as for anyone else! It’s been quite a year of big changes and celebrations – Joe and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary, (and Joe’s 50th birthday) and had the most wonderful weekend of fun here in…

The latest chapter …

This school year has been very different – Beth and Arty are at lycée together, Beth finishing, Arty beginning. There was no post for me this year, so my four years of teaching at lycée have come to a close. This year I’m teaching adults through the Chamber of Commerce, and teaching one day a…

Atkins on a bus!

So we left the UK in July 2007, selling everything and embarking on a great adventure of travelling the world in a bus we had converted into our home. We called our trip “Welcome to the World” https://atkinsonabus.wordpress.com and we spent the most fantastic year on the road… home-schooling; playing concerts whenever and wherever we could and…

Hello again!

It’s been a while… but it feels like a good time for a catch up! I was telling a friend about how much I loved writing my blog – reflecting on where I am and what I’m doing with my life… and I realised with astonishment that I last updated more than two years ago!…

6 months later!

Hello again – I can’t believe I’ve managed to let 6 months pass without a word! Finally there are pauses in the mayhem, and I thought I’d treat myself to a moment’s catch up! So 2012 – turning out to be a rather splendid year for all of us! I’ve been teaching my socks off!…

Good Bye 2011 and a big optimistic hello to 2012!

Time to kiss 2011 goodbye and raise a glass to 2012. It’s been a very mixed year for many of the people I love:  enormous and unexpected losses, some serious highs and lows…but some wonderful new friendships and new beginnings to nurture in 2012. 2011 – the year I lost my magnificent and precious Dad…

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Nope…. it’s still not snowing! But we put the tree up yesterday, and it looks beautiful! I’ve had literally no spare time, and I’ve really missed writing my blog, so thought I’d grab this little window tonight to give a quick update… don’t know why it feels so important, but I guess this just feels…

It’s all coming together nicely…

That was a great week of teaching… the shock is starting to wear off and I’m getting into my stride. I really like all my students, and feel like I’m making a connection. I don’t know how much their English is actually improving grammatically, but their increasing confidence and motivation is truly rewarding. I’m finding…

11/11/11 Armistice Day and long weekend!

Wednesday was a breeze, early start, but early finish, and I had three really nice lessons all with the same year group. Brought Harry back with me – I just love being at the same school as one of my children. It’s such a privilege to be sharing his space, and to feel so welcome.…
